The president’s speech last night was moving. He spoke for all of us when he described how no one should have to speak at one vigil, never mind four.
I’m sure that gun laws will be proposed and opposed. I’m sure mental health aid will be increased. I’m sure that this won’t be the last vigil of mass murder that a president will have to speak at no matter reactions are enacted as a result of this latest massacre. Stiffer gun laws or locking guns up in safes won’t prevent mass murder for a determined person. An increase in mental health aid will be welcome by those that are struggling to deal with the problem every day but it’s not a cure. We can’t lock up our children in our schools or put metal detectors at every entrance of every movie theater.
Should we have stiffer gun laws? Absolutely. The arguments against stiffer gun laws look weaker and weaker with every new death.
